Palpable Emotions

With only one week pending until the long awaited viaje (trip) to Cuba with a native Cuban my partner of ten years….Don Peter! I am anxious as a first time (virgin) traveler to Cuba, and thrilled at the possibilities that await. From the azure waters to the sulfur spring mud baths, reviewing nautical charts, and maps, seeking out beaches, restaurants and a myriad of places to check out. The process includes: venturing into the closet, puling out one 44 lb suitcase (20kilos max on Cubana Airlines), selecting outfits, since temperatures will be in the 90’s with...

5 Things to bring to Cuba

Cash!  Not dollars, bring Euros,Canadian dollars, Pounds, Yen, Swiss Francs, or Mexican pesos because, after the exchanges fees you will get 10% less cuc in dollars over the other acceptable currencies. Tip: use a money belt in Cuba. Toilet paper! Yes, you read correctly and I write this from experience unless you want to use banana leaves or...

Havana has a white sand beach?

Not really, but just fifteen minutes away Havana (Lavana) has an awesome white sand beach.  Actually a really big long stretch of white sand beach that goes by the name of Playas Del Este.  The easiest way to get there if it is just one or two of you, is to take the A/C tour bus at Lavana central park across the street from the Hotel Inglatera (England). For only 5 cu each round-trip from 9am-6pm you can hop on or off at the 2 forts across the Havana Channel Moro or La Cabana (make sure you get a voucher) or go straight through to playas del este. Here each segment of...

First night experiencing Cuba

Like little kids that could not wait to experience Cuba my dad and I raced to the customs desk. After breezing through customs, our driver picked us up and off we go to our B&B (casa particular) in Lavana (Havana as we say) we went. Our 25 minute trip to Lavana Vieja (old) seemed surreal, the streets, architecture, and people were making me look every which way not wanting to miss a thing.   We arrived around 6pm, briefly meeting our host and dropping off our bags. Off we went to our first adventure in Lavana! We did not make it very far,  only 4 blocks along...
